Amazon S3 Pricing

Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) is used by major enterprises like Netflix, Pinterest and Reddit.

AmazonS3 costs about $0.055/GB per month if you retain over 5,000TB on Amazon’s cloud (the price goes up to $0.095/GB per month for 1TB or less of storage). If the data you’re interested in storing isn’t mission-critical, Amazon’s Reduced Redundancy Storage (RRS) offering lowers the price to $0.037/GB per month. This is generally for non-duplicated, non-HA data.

You can choose to store your data in one of several geographic regions; the obvious benefit is reducing your latency by picking a region close to home, or your customers, but from a disaster recovery standpoint, selecting a remote region makes sense, too.

Everything you store with Amazon S3 is accessible via the web, and you can use the Amazon S3 Encryption Client to lock down data before it leaves your company. Amazon has impressive resources for developers, which should help your staff hit the ground running.

Amazon also has a well-defined service level agreement (SLA) in place, and if you have any doubts over the service’s resilience, consider that Amazon itself runs it’s own businesses on S3.
